WHY LATVIA
Latvia is a subordinate member of the World Trade Organization (1999) and the European Union (2004). Following the introduction of the Euro, Euro barometer surveys in January 2014 showed support for the Euro to be around 53%, close to the European average. Latvia is a country with varied landscapes, sprawling cities and age-old cultural traditions. Latvia offers students, the best in world class education, both in terms of streams and diversity of study programs. With one of the fastest growing economies in the European Union, the Latvian business sectors are buoyant, offering great opportunities to international students. And mind you, all these come at a fraction of the cost that one would usually associate with overseas studies.
Latvia’s landscape has rolling hills, lowland plains, thousands of lakes and rivers and is considered as one of the greenest countries in Europe. 44 % of the territory is covered with forests and the countryside is less than 100 meters above sea level. It has the widest waterfall in Europe called Ventas Rumba. Latvia is home to the largest and one of the oldest museums of natural history and sciences in the Baltic States called the Latvian Museum of Natural History. One of the most valuable and oldest monuments of medieval architecture in the Baltic States is Peter’s Church. It was also included among the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
A unique feature that stands out in the case of Latvia when students need to research about study in Latvia is that the education is administered at three levels viz. the national, municipal and institutional. The policies regarding education are formulated by the Ministry of Education and Science and the elected members of the ministry.
